Fab Favorites

Favorites, often time make us choose more than one, because we like so many things, for so many different reasons.. in fact we like them all- don't we?

Well in this post to choose your favorite you must dig deep to find out why in each category your answer is your favorite. Ask yourself what separates your favorite from your second and third favorite.

My Hope is this exercise will challenge you not just to chose your favorite but why your choice is your favorite.

Tip: Your answers should be as long or as short as it applies to you.

"We are the Author...

I recieved this email and I simply had to share. For those of you who recently watched President Obama's Speech on Education. I think this email is a reenforcement of the importance of education, and not just parenting but, good parenting. With the exception of the spiritual realm. I believe we are the author of our future, our destiny and in some cases our purpose.

The Reverend Jesse Jackson almost never gets upstaged and I had never seen the Reverend Jesse Louis Jackson cry in public until last month. Jackson invited Bill Cosby to the annual Rainbow/PUSH conference for a conversation about the controversial remarks the entertainer offered on May 17 at an NAACP dinner in Washington , D.C. When America 's Jell-O Man shook things up by arguing that African Americans were betraying the legacy of civil rights victories.

Cosby said 'the lower economic people are not holding up their end in this deal. These people are not parenting. They are buying things for their kids. $500 sneakers for what? But they won't spend $200 for Hooked on Phonics!'Bill Cosby came to town and upstaged the reverend by going on the offense instead of defending his earlier remarks. Thursday morning, Cosby showed no signs of repenting as he strode across the stage at the Sheraton Hotel ballroom before a standing room only crowd.

Sporting a natty gold sports coat and dark glasses, he proceeded to unload a Laundry list of black America 's self-imposed ills. The iconic actor and comedian kidded that he couldn't compete with the oratory of the Reverend but he preached circles around Jackson in their nearly hour-long conversation, delivering brutally frank one-liners and the toughest of love.

The enemy, he argues, is us: "There is a time, ladies and gentlemen, when we have to turn the mirror around." Cosby acknowledged he wasn't critiquing all blacks, just the 50 percent of African Americans in the lower economic neighborhood who drop out of school. The alarming proportions of black men in prison and black teenage mothers. The mostly black crowd seconded him with choruses of Amens. To the critics who pose, it's unproductive to air our dirty laundry in public, he responds. "Your dirty laundry gets out of school at 2:30 every day." It's cursing on the way home, on the bus, train, in the candy store. They are cursing and grabbing each other and going nowhere.

The book bag is very, very thin because there's nothing in it. Don't worry about the white man, he added. I could care less about what white people think about me. . . Let them talk. What are they saying that is so different from what their grandfathers said and did to us? What is different is what we are doing to ourselves. For those who say Cosby is just an elitist who's "got his" but doesn't understand the plight of the black poor, he reminds us that, "We're going to turn that mirror around. It's not just the poor-everybody's guilty. Cosby and Jackson lamented that in the 50th years of Brown vs. Board of Education, our failings betray our legacy. Jackson dabbed away tears as he recalled the financial struggles at Fisk University, a historically black college and Jackson 's Alma mater.

When Cosby was done, the 1,000 people in the room all jumped to their feet in ovation. We have shed tears too many times, at too many watershed moments before, while the hopes they inspired have fallen by the wayside. Not this time!...Cosby's plea to parents:"Before you get to the point where you say.

I can't do nothing with them , do something with them." Teach our children to speak English. There's no such thing as "talking white". When the teacher calls, show up at the school. When the idiot box starts spewing profane rap videos; turn it off. Refrain from cursing around the kids. Teach our boys that women should be cherished, not raped and demeaned. Tell them that education is a prize we won with blood and tears, not a dishonor. Stop making excuses for the agents and abettors of black on black crime. It costs us nothing to do these things. But if we don't, it will cost us infinitely more tears.

We all send thousands of jokes through e-mail without a second thought, but when it comes to sending messages regarding life choices, people think twice about sharing. The crude, vulgar, and sometimes the obscene pass freely through cyberspace, but public discussion of decency is too often suppressed in the schools and workplaces.

Let the Church say Amen!

Words of Wisdom

I had to post this message because when I read it, it touched me. So many of us look at life through tanted windows so we become judgemental.

A young couple moves into a new neighborhood. The next morning while they are eating breakfast, The young woman sees her neighbor hanging the wash outside."That laundry is not very clean", she said."She doesn't know how to wash correctly. Perhaps she needs better laundry soap."Her husband looked on, but remained silent. Every time her neighbor would hang her wash to dry, The young woman would make the same comments.

About one month later, the woman was surprised to see aNice clean wash on the line and said to her husband:"Look, she has learned how to wash correctly. I wonder who taught her this."The husband said, "I got up early this morning andCleaned Our Windows." And so it is with life.

What we see when watching others Depends on the PURITY OF THE WINDOW through which we look....

LORD, GIVE ME A PURE & CLEAN HEART!

Sexy Saturday

It was early Saturday morning. Sasha barely awake, thought about all the things she had to do today. Her mind was racing, as she tried to complete one thought before racing to the next. Sasha a dark skinned woman had everything going for her. She was beautiful, smart, sexy, slender in height, pretty oval eyes and a smile that can light up a Christmas tree. Sasha quickly sat up in Bed "Oh Sh*t.... she said. She forgot to take out the frozen boneless chicken breast she intended to have for dinner that night.

After brushing her teeth, she quickly ran down stairs to make her daily morning tea and defrost her chicken. As she sat on her chase sipping her favorite tea, she looked through her window and reminisced about her encounter with the gorgeous guy she met at The Spot last night. The Spot is a new night club that opened down town Chicago last week. Her memory was suddenly interrupted by the ringing of her cell phone. "Hello.... she said. On the other end was a deep, strong, sexy voice that was magnetic. "Hey Sasha.... the voice said. It was Brian from The Spot.

She quickly gathered her thoughts as she took another sip from her tea. "Oh hey Brian, How are you?.... "I'm good, how are you doing this morning? He replied. She nervously said "I'm doing great". In Sasha's mind she was surprised he called so soon but did not want to convey that in her tone. She wondered if it was a good thing or a bad thing. After all, he could turn out to be a stalker or worst. "Listen, do you have any plans tonight?. She hesitated for a moment remembering her boyfriend Brandon. "No"... she replied. "I was wondering if you would like to go to a poetry reading event with me tonight?. "OK".... Sasha said. "Great" Brian replied. "I'll pick you up at seven, just text me your address when you get a chance.

She hung up the phone feeling excited. She couldn't help but think how sexy and attractive Brain was. Their meeting last night was interesting; they danced and talked all night long. She remembered how intriguing and intelligent he was. She smiled and ran upstairs to her closet. What am I going to wear? She said to herself. It was the summer time in Chicago. Sasha was well aware that sunny, warm days don't last very long in the windy city. She figured she will make the best of it by wearing her short denim dress with the back out and the front low.

She jumped into the shower, and suddenly her enthusiasm turned grim. She thought about her boyfriend Brandon. She became riddled with guilt and confusion already. The last time she saw Brandon was Thursday night. They had a terrible fight. They argued about everything from sex, money, his recent late hours at work and his so called female friend who just happens to be his co/worker. Hmmm, she was beginning to suspect that he may be cheating on her but, was relieved because she was not in love with him any more. She grew tired of the arguing and found they were not compatible. It seemed they were growing apart.

It was about five o'clock that evening. Sasha had just returned home from the supermarket. She picked up her Christian Dior suit from the cleaners for her promising interview on Monday. Sasha had just graduated law school last month and landed a much coveted interview at one of the most prestigious law firms in down town Chicago. After eight years of school, she finally got an opportunity to make some real money. She was elated. Just as she was putting away her groceries she remembered Brian. She quickly text him her address, before answering her home phone.

The number looked familiar it was her best friend Meagan. "Hey girl, whats up? Sasha said to Meagan. "Oh nothing, on my way home from the mall. Whats up with you? Replied Meagan. "I just got home, I'm going out with some friends tonight. What are you up to tonight? Tangy said. "Oh nothing probably lounge around the house, maybe take in a movie, you know make it a blockbuster night. "Oooh, sounds like fun said Sasha. (Smiling, in her tone). "Hey, have you heard anything from Brandon? Meagan asked. "No girl, not sure if I want to either. We had a big fight Thursday night but, I'm not pressed. Listen Ill talk to you later , I gotta get ready for tonight. "OK said Meagan "Bye.

Sasha realized she only had an hour to get ready for her date. She quickly straightened her house and showered again. She washed her hair and flat ironed it. Before long the door bell rang. She braced herself before she opened the door. She was a little nervous which is unlike her. She was fully dressed and ready to see Brian again. She opened the door and was greeted by a delightful smile, broad shoulders and fresh flowers. How cliche' she thought but, smiled anyway and greeted him with a short hug. "Please come in... she said. "You look beautiful, he told her as he walked over to the living room, looking around her house as if he was sight seeing. "Nice place. "Thank you, replied Sasha.

They stood in her living room for a few moments silent as they looked at each other with curiosity and intensity. Are you ready? the show starts at eight, Brian looked at her with such charm, and she wanted to know more. "Oh yeah let me get my shoes and we can go. Sasha ran upstairs and grabbed her brown and tan BCBG stilettos, oh yes she thought, a first date is never complete without stilettos!

Brian and Sasha had a great time at the show. They met new people who seemed interesting and had great conversations. She loved socializing with him by her side. They felt right together much like a power couple. After the show, it was about 10:30pm. The night was still young so they decided to dine at the "Soul, Soul Good" restaurant over looking the lake just right outside of the city. At dinner the conversation was somber, serious and funny. They flirted and between laughs, they lustfully undressed each other with their eyes. They talked about almost everything. Tangy learned that Brian also just graduated law school and was offered a lucrative position at an up and coming law firm in NYC. Brian a native New Yorker longed to return there. They compared childhood stories, likes and dislikes. However there was still, no talk of past relationships or current ones.

As the night wore on, it was time for their date to end. On the drive home, the quiet tunes to Kem "Love calls" played softly in the background. Sasha briefly thought about Brandon but failed to mention him. She felt why should she? She did not know Brian well enough to disclose that information to him. Besides, she thought to herself Brandon seems to be on his way out of the picture anyway. Brian pulled up to her house, he opened the car door for her and walked her to the door. Unbenounced, to Sasha there was something brewing and was about to explode.

Once inside, Sasha gave Brian a glass of wine and preceded upstairs to her bedroom to check her messages. She had four messages from Brandon. Five minutes into her voicemail. She was pleasantly startled by Brian's soft lips on the back of her neck. She knew that she wanted him sexually, but not this soon. Before she could say a word it was too late, she was already melting! The butterflies in her stomach felt so good, she knew she couldn't stop now. As they kissed passionately and moved further towards the bed, Brandon popped into her head again. It was short lived after Brian entered her, it was a wrap.

It was about 4:00am that morning, after heavy pillow talk and satisfying sex. They slowly drifted off to sleep. It was a half an hour later and Sasha had an uneasy feeling. She couldn't sleep. Suddenly her bedroom lights went on and there was Brandon standing in her doorway. Oh my God!, she grasp loudly as her heart began to race a thousand beats per minute. Startled, Brain sat up in the bed confused and in disbelief. Before he could say a word. Brandon, much to her surprise very calmly, sat at the edge of the bed and lit a cigarette.

Brian was obviously shocked and at a loss for words. Clinching the sheets over her body, Sasha was saturated with fear. The awkward silence and tension was more than he could stand. Brian then looked at her and said Who the f*&k is this?!?. Brandon replied, as he gently blew smoke from his cigarette. I'm her reality.

To be continued...

Reality please Rise

Reality tv, tru tv, reality shows. Reality, reality, reality really??? (sigh). What's real about it? Real is authentic and cannot be altered, substituted or duplicated. If so then I argue it's not really real. Real is original, rare and very hard to come by especially in this day and time.

I have to admit, I watch reality tv and sometimes find myself addicted to shows like, Making the band, For the love of Ray J and from G's to Gent's. After engaging in much of the drama that eventually unfolds, I soon realize that none of it is real. I have concluded that while some intentions for the show's agenda may be real or considered to be real, it is not.

Only because finding love, money, sobriety or class does not happen overnight. There are no short cuts to achieving these goals. Some may agree or disagree but the fact is these things come from within, through hard work, patience, drive, passion and sheer determination.

This is my REALITY. whats your's?

Made in Marriage

Union or unity? The words sound and look simular enough, but do they mean the same? What do you think?...Lets take it a part and analyze it. See what we come up with. A union is two or more people who are joined together based on a common goal. Unity is two or more people in sync with each other, on one one accord, one agenda. So, what is the difference? you say.

The difference is the person or persons in question. Let's take a union such as a marriage. In theory the "union of marriage" is awesome, great intensions perhaps. However, in reality it's the person or persons in the marriage that makes the definition of union true. That is the difference. The fact is there is no union without unity.

Any questions?

A Writers World

I wanna be an actress,
a singer,
a writer,
a decorator,
a designer,
a teacher,
a leader,
a journalist....

All in a writers world. Except in my world I can be all those things through writing. With writing imagination meets innovation. Make sense huh?

What? u think I'm Krazy, lol):- neva dat. It's all in a writers world.

And, Life is like a Poem.

Mr. President,

Did you ever dream or imagine such a Historic moment. Most would say NO. I say yes, just not in my lifetime. hahaha lol): I'm so thrilled I can't hardly stand it. So what does it mean? I ask my creator. Change... Mr President says. My God tells me true change comes through him. If Mr President is God's vessel then surely change will come.

"At last we have overcome.
sinful shame and oppression
At last we have overcome
brutal battles and regression.

I've seen the promise land "said the preacher"
filled with milk, honey and sand
We are our own worst enemy
no, more blame to remedy.

The former is still watching and waiting
but, we have control of our own painting
Our names and lives belongs to us
no more fake brushes, no more back of the bus".

At last.
